Version 1.0 · Effective 2026-09-01
These Terms are an agreement between you and BoldWord ("we", "us") governing your use of BoldWord (the "Service"). By using the Service you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms.
1.1 These Terms apply to all services provided through https://boldword.chat and its associated subdomains.
1.2 We may revise these Terms. For material changes affecting your rights or obligations, we will notify you at least 30 days before they take effect, by in-app notice or email; continued use constitutes acceptance. Previous versions are archived by version number and effective date and can be requested from we@boldword.chat.
1.3 The Privacy Policy that accompanies these Terms is available at https://boldword.chat/en/privacy and forms an integral part of these Terms.
2.1 The Service is instant messaging software used through a browser, and can also be added to your device's home screen. Features include: one-to-one text and image messages, file transfer, voice messages, voice calls, per-conversation message retention periods, an app lock, and optional lightweight business modules (such as tickets).
2.2 Scope of the Service. The Service provides no public profiles, feeds, content recommendation or stranger search. All conversations take place in one-to-one channels between people who have added each other.
2.3 We do not claim that text messages are end-to-end encrypted. Text and images are stored on the server so that you can view and search your history across multiple devices; technically, the operator is able to read them. Voice calls connect device-to-device (media streams are encrypted) and we do not handle call content. If you need stronger control, you can deploy the Service on your own server.
2.4 We make reasonable efforts to keep the Service available, but do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Planned maintenance will be announced in advance.
3.1 Registration requires a valid invitation code, or activation by the administrator of the instance. The Service is not open to public self-registration.
3.2 You are responsible for all activity under your account and for keeping your password secure. If you discover unauthorised use of your account, contact we@boldword.chat immediately.
3.3 Age requirement. The Service is not directed to persons under 16. If we find that an account is held by someone below that age, we will close it.
3.4 No individual or legal entity may register multiple accounts in order to circumvent seat limits.
4.1 The Service is billed on a subscription basis. Subscriptions are priced by "number of seats × duration", where a seat is one contact you can keep connected at the same time. The current plans and prices are those shown on the pricing page at https://boldword.chat and on the in-app purchase page. The table below reflects the prices in effect when these Terms were published:
| Seats | 1 month | 6 months | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 seat | USD 2.99 | USD 16.99 | USD 29.99 |
| 50 seats | USD 3.99 | USD 19.99 | USD 29.99 |
| Unlimited | USD 9.99 | USD 49.99 | USD 89.99 |
4.2 Free trial. New accounts receive a 30-day free trial from registration, including 1 seat, with no payment details required. The trial does not convert into a charge automatically; accounts without a subscription become read-only when the trial ends.
4.3 Credits. The Service operates a referral reward credit.
4.4 Self-hosted deployment is a bespoke project, quoted and contracted separately, and is not governed by Sections 4 to 7.
5.1 Recurring subscription authorisation. When you choose a subscription plan that renews on a cycle, you expressly authorise us and our payment processor to charge the payment method you provide at the start of each billing cycle, until you cancel under Section 6.
5.2 Annual subscription reminder. For 12-month subscriptions, we will email you 7 days before automatic renewal with the date and amount of the upcoming charge.
5.3 Before a free trial converts to a paid plan, we will notify you separately. We will not charge you unless you have actively placed an order.
5.4 Payment processing and card numbers. Payments for the Service are handled by Waffo Pancake as the payment processor. Our servers do not store your full card number.
5.5 Billing descriptor. Your bank or card statement will show a recognisable merchant descriptor. If you cannot identify a charge, contact we@boldword.chat and we will help you check it.
5.6 Credits and authorisation. Credits are earned as a reward and involve no charge, so no payment authorisation or automatic top-up exists in relation to credits.
6.1 In-product cancellation. You can cancel your subscription at any time in the app under "Settings → Seats & Subscription", without contacting support. The cancellation control is directly available in the product interface.
6.2 Cancellation takes effect for subsequent cycles: the time you have already paid for remains usable until it expires, after which no further charge is made and the account becomes unsubscribed.
6.3 You may also request cancellation via we@boldword.chat, but this does not replace the in-product route in Section 6.1.
6.4 Effect of cancellation on credits. Cancelling a subscription does not affect credits you have already earned; they remain in your account and do not expire because of cancellation or the end of a subscription.
7.1 7-day guarantee on your first purchase. Within 7 calendar days of your first subscription purchase, you may request a full refund provided you have not made substantial use of the Service.
7.2 Duplicate charges and service outages. Duplicate charges, charges made in error, and prolonged unavailability of the Service within a billing cycle caused by us are refunded in full or pro rata.
7.3 Used periods are not refundable. A billing cycle that has begun and been used is not refundable. For multi-month subscriptions we refund pro rata for whole unused months.
7.4 Credits roll over. Credits do not expire and accumulate continuously; they are not cleared at the end of a cycle.
7.5 Credits after cancellation. See Section 6.4: credits are retained after cancellation.
7.6 Order of consumption. The Service has only one kind of credit (the referral reward), so no question of consumption order between credit types arises.
7.7 EU / UK consumer right of withdrawal. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you have a statutory right to withdraw within 14 days of purchase. Please note that if you ask us to begin providing the service immediately and it has been fully performed, you may lose that right; we will ask you to confirm this at checkout.
7.8 Send refund requests to we@boldword.chat. We respond within 3 business days and refund via the original payment route.
7.9 This refund policy is also shown on the checkout page.
8.1 If you disagree with a charge, please contact us first at we@boldword.chat. We will investigate and respond within 5 business days.
8.2 We encourage you to contact us before starting a bank chargeback — the great majority of disputes are resolved faster directly. Where a charge is found to be our fault, we refund it on our own initiative.
8.3 We reserve the right to suspend accounts that abuse the chargeback process.
9.1 The software, interface, documentation and trade marks of the Service belong to us or our licensors. These Terms grant you only a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for the duration of your subscription.
9.2 Your content is yours. Rights in the messages, files and other content you send through the Service remain yours at all times. We process them only as necessary to provide the Service (storage, synchronisation, transmission).
9.3 You may not copy, reverse-engineer or resell the Service, or build a competing service on it, without written permission.
You agree not to use the Service for any of the following:
10.1 Breaking applicable law, or infringing the rights of others;
10.2 Harassing, threatening or stalking others, or monitoring someone without their consent;
10.3 Distributing malware, sending spam, or carrying out fraud or phishing;
10.4 Distributing child sexual abuse material, terrorist content or other illegal content;
10.5 Accessing the Service or another person's account without authorisation, or circumventing technical limits such as seats or rate limits;
10.6 AI-specific prohibitions — the Service uses third-party AI models in optional features such as speech-to-text and message translation (see Section 12.3). You must not: use output from the Service to train competing models; generate deepfake content; or impersonate professionals such as doctors, lawyers or financial advisers in order to give advice.
Breaching any of the above allows us to suspend or terminate your account without prior notice (see Section 13).
11.1 How we handle personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy: https://boldword.chat/en/privacy .
11.2 We apply security measures such as encryption to stored data and restrict internal access. No system, however, is absolutely secure.
11.3 Breach notification. If a personal data breach occurs that may put your rights at risk, we will notify affected users and the applicable supervisory authorities within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
11.4 You can export your data at any time, or ask for your account and its data to be permanently deleted.
12.1 The Service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied.
12.2 To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss. Our aggregate liability is capped at the amount you actually paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
12.3 Third-party services. Some optional features of the Service depend on third parties: payments are handled by Waffo Pancake; speech-to-text and message translation call third-party AI model providers when you actively use them. These features are off by default or must be triggered by you each time; how the data is handled and where it goes is described in the Privacy Policy.
12.4 Nothing in this Section excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law (such as personal injury caused by intent or gross negligence).
13.1 You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. What happens to your data afterwards is set out in the Privacy Policy.
13.2 We may suspend or terminate your account if you seriously breach these Terms (in particular Section 10). Unless prohibited by law, we will state the reason and provide an appeal route at we@boldword.chat.
13.3 Subscription time left unused because we terminated is refunded pro rata, unless the termination resulted from your breach of Section 10.
14.1 The parties will first try in good faith to resolve any dispute by discussion; contact we@boldword.chat.
14.2 If you are a consumer, these Terms do not take away rights or remedies you have under the mandatory law of your place of residence, and you may always seek redress from a competent court or consumer protection authority there.
15.1 If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remaining provisions continue in force.
15.2 Failure to exercise a right is not a waiver of it.
15.3 You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written consent; we may assign these Terms in the context of a corporate reorganisation or transfer of assets, with prior notice to you.
15.4 These Terms constitute the entire agreement between the parties in relation to the Service.
For general support, billing and charges, refunds, cancellation, legal matters and appeals, security incidents, and privacy and data rights, please email we@boldword.chat and state the subject in the email title; we will pass it to the right person.
